I created the UX design of a site for a pet shelter who wanted to a mobile optimised site, where potential new pet owners could find a suitable pet based on the animals own requirements and traits.
I designed a site where information could easily be viewed on a mobile device, and which allowed the user to quickly find information and book an appointment to visit an animal at the shelter.
Challenge
Many new owners base their choice of pet on initial appearances. The pet shelter wanted to encourage people to think about what kind of characteristic would suit their lifestyle and vice versa what characteristics they as the owner could accomodate. The aim was to take the best care of that pet. For example if the owner will not be able to take a dog for a walk regularly, then it is better they choose a dog or other pet that does not need to be walked outdoors regularly.
Research
I discussed with the client the information that needed to be shared on the site about the animal and discussed with pet owners what would have helped them when it came to choosing their pet.
There was a page where the customer would be able to filter from the available pets by selecting typical traits they would or would not like. The staff at the shelter helped devise the list of pet related questions and traits so the customer would be able to choose those that suited them and would therefore help them narrow the options so as to choose a suitable pet animal.
Process Flows
I then produced a process flow diagram detailing the main journeys on the site.

Wireframes and Prototypes
I produced draft wireframes of each page. These were built in Figma.

I tried to opt for a colourful and fun look to the site, to reflect the friendly nature of the organisation and their intention to make it an enjoyable experience.

Prototype
The prototype reflected the main journey from selecting the type of animal, through selection of animal traits and reviewing an individual animal before entering their own details and booking a time to come and visit the shelter.
