Digital Business Analyst and UX Designer
Combining user centred design with e-commerce business analysis skills and design knowledge to create better digital products.
I have always been logical, organised, analytical and creative. I have a Mathematics degree from Oxford University and a strong interest in art, design, literature and creativity.
After working as a Digital Business Analyst on various digital/web projects, I began to study and practice UX Design myself.
My interest in all things creative and design related have lead me to learn Web Design, Web Development, Graphic Design, 3D Design and Industrial Design.
I have worked for various organisations including Clothing Retailers, Airlines, Stockbrokers and Luxury Brands. With my varied skills and background I am able to look at any challenge from a business, design, stakeholder and technical perspective, and work through it in a methodical and logical way, liaising with all parties and delivering solutions in a timely manner.
In my spare time I like to also make time to paint, sketch and write.
Projects
Booking Journey for Travel Agency
A travel agency that provides packaged holidays wanted to customers to directly book a package via their website.
I created the customer journey, wireframes and prototypes for the entire booking journey.
Account Management for Travel Agency
A travel agency did not have the ability to set up or manage a user account online.
I worked on providing this facility, including the ability to view/edit personal details or an existing booking.
Hotel Map Search for Travel Agency
A travel agency wanted to add functionality to the the location of their proposed hotel, on a location map.
I produced this map functionality in a way that was suited to the clients specific requirements.
Design Learning
User Experience
Initially gained knowledge of User Experience working closely with designers as part of my work on large commerical websites as Digital Business Analyst.
I then did an live interactive programme taught by experienced UX Designers, UX Researchers, culminating in a project with a real-life client.
I continued my study with courses at the IxDF (Interaction Design Foundation) and taking on projects for clients.
Web Design and Development
Took an in-person course at college teaching XHTML, CSS and JavaScript coding. The focus was on creating complete websites from scratch without any software tools. I’ve found this useful in my career as it helped me understand how websites worked and see issues/limitations from a technical perspective.
Graphic Design
Learnt Graphic Design via a course at college, which covered everything necessary to understand key design principles and gave lots of practical experience.
I learnt to use Adobe Photoshop to modify photos, use Adobe Illustrator to create vector designs including logos, and use Adobe InDesign to create brochures or packaging.
3D and Industrial Design
My interest in physical products and architecture lead me to want to learn about about Industrial Design.
I studied via an interactive programme taught by Offsite based in the USA.
This included 3D Sketching by hand, which taught me how to present and develop product ideas using just pen and paper, researching the market and competitors, testing some ideas, before finalising them and presenting in a final presentation.
I also did Offsite’s course in Methods, which covered different methods that Industrial Designers use to come up with ideas.
I also took the Offsite Discourse course, which was all about philiopshy of good design, and the “why” behind who you are as a person and designer, concepts like truth, cause and effect and conflict resolution and keeping perspective.
Separately I have also learnt how to use other 3D software, taking a course in the London College of Art, in Rhino 3D. I learnt how to design 3D objects such as chairs, and complex jewellery.
I intend to continue my studies, learning about Autodesk Fusion 360, so I have skill in this industry-standard CAD tool as well.
